Grand Master Otis Burwell has been teaching the art of Taekwondo in Madison County for over the past 25 years. Grand Master Burwell is an 8th Degree Black Belt and the highest ranked African American in Alabama. Over the years through teaching, Grand Master Burwell has made an impact in the lives of children by helping them build confidence, show respect, be disciplined and developed them to become leaders in the community.
Burwell’s Martial Arts is known in the world of Taekwondo for its “no fear” sparring and numerous National Team members in the AAU community. Our athletes have traveled to Spain, Puerto Rico, Italy, Chile, Brazil, Ireland, and Germany along with having gone to the Olympic Team Trials in Colorado Springs, Colorado to compete with the best of the best.
It is our goal at Burwell’s Martial Arts to provide a safe place for kids to attend after school. Our After School Program provides tutoring free of charge and an environment where they will learn the art of Taekwondo and also have a place to grow and evolve into productive members of society. It is also our goal to continue a pursuit of excellence by striving to make the dream of becoming an Olympic athlete a reality for our students and make training accessible to anyone who has the desire to excel in Taekwondo.
